-
Almond - southwest; on
NC-28 just west of US-19/74
Almond is at the confluence of the Little Tennessee River
and the Nantahala River, both well known to the white water
rafters but popular with folks who want waterfront homes
with out the risk of flooding. The Little Tennessee River
impoundment at Fontana Dam creates Fontana Lake which
reaches all the way to Almond.

Bryson City - central;
on US-19
Cherokee is for tourists; Bryson City is for home owners.
The Tuckaseegee River flows right through the center of town. Once
upon a time the center of town was Depot Street; then the
businesses spread across the river to US-19 (which is 'Main
Street'). The completion of the US-74 freeway pulled the through
traffic away from downtown but it hasn't seemed to hurt the
economy. Folks come to Bryson City because they want to. And the
real estate agents here can testify to that! You'll find an
agency list at
NCMLF.com.

Cherokee
- east; at intersection of US-19 and US-441
Most
folks come her for one — or both — of two reasons: to see
Native Americans and/or to gamble at the Indian-owned casino
(operated by Harrahs).
One of the favorite lodgings in this area is the log cabin although, here,
most have all the conveniences of home. Renting log cabins is a big business
and very popular and the local real estate agents can give you all the
information you'll need. A list of local agencies is at
NCMLF.com.

Whittier
- east; on us-74 freeway
Whittier sits in two counties (Jackson and Swain), straddles
the Tuckasegee River and is fortunate to have the US-74
freeway as its access to the outside world. Bryson City is
right next door. This is an enviable location for, here, you
can enjoy the 'wilds' and yet be in close contact to retail,
medical, etc., facilities. If you've been thinking about
relocating to the mountains, contact one of the local real
estate agencies (see
NCMLF.com) and let one of their agents introduce you to
this great community.
