Playhouse (The State Theatre of North Carolina) is
operated by The Vagabond School of the Drama, Inc., a
not-for-profit organization.
The Vagabond School of the Drama, Inc. also has two main
educational divisions: the summer Apprentice/Intern Program
and the fall through spring Theatre for Young People.
Between these two divisions classes are offered to students
from first grade through college graduates and pre
professional students. The summer programs are accredited
through the University of North Carolina at Asheville.
Eight productions are offered between late May and mid-October
annually and a Holiday production in December. A variety of
comedies, musicals, and dramas, which range from World
Premieres to the latest from Broadway and London to the
Classics, compose the summer/fall series. Flat Rock
Playhouse endeavors to produce plays that have a wide range
of appeal and are appropriate for the entire family.
Flat Rock Playhouse is a professional theatre operating under a
Resident Stock Contract Agreement with Actors’ Equity
Association, the national union of professional actors and
stage managers.
